Mary Ewenson, President
Mary Ewenson grew up on the Severn River, just north of Annapolis, Maryland, spending much of her summers on the water. After college, she taught high school math for several years before turning her love for sailing into a new career in 1995, when she and her friend Dave Gendell started SpinSheet Magazine. Two years later, at the Severn Sailing Association’s Interclub Midwinters, sailing made her life complete when Geoff Ewenson walked into the skippers’ meeting. Tall, handsome, and tan having recently returned from a month sailing in Mexico, Geoff and his beautiful blue eyes captured Mary’s heart, and from then on there was no Mary without Geoff.

Mary’s initial foray into the marine industry with SpinSheet has grown over the years to include PropTalk Magazine, PortBook, a stake in the Annapolis BoatShows, and most recently FishTalk Magazine, which she started with Chesapeake angler Lenny Rudow. She has served on the boards of Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating, the Marine Trades Association of Maryland, the Annapolis Waterfront and Sailing Center, and the Maritime Advisory Board of Anne Arundel County, and currently serves as a captain with Athletes Serving Athletes.

On October 14, 2020, the trajectory of Mary’s life was again changed when Geoff passed away. She’s forever grateful for the 23 years they spent together and is determined to bring joy to others in memory of Geoff. When she’s not working on the EWE Spirit Foundation, she sails the couple’s Viper 640, spends time with their two brown dogs, Angus and Malcolm, and runs with friends. She’s immensely grateful for all the family and friends who have helped her to weather this terrible loss, has been inspired by the terrific support of the Foundation, and is committed to helping those in need just as Geoff would.
