For many years, Geoff Ewenson made the January pilgrimage south to race sailboats in Key West Race Week and run in the Key West 5K. Geoff loved visiting Key West to sail and run, and over the years he managed podium finishes in both the regatta and the 5K race. Thus, it’s fitting that friends of the EWE Spirit Foundation gather each January to run, sail, and fundraise in memory of Geoff.
This year, Team EWE was 35 people strong, drawing participants from across the country. Our team's combined efforts raised over $17,000. A special thank-you to our top fundraising team, Ephs for EWE, and our top fundraiser, Mark Solan. Mark raised $2,415.60 from 25 donors and has earned a pair of red Vans (Geoff’s signature kicks) for his effort. To further demonstrate our commitment to this special community, the EWE Spirit Foundation will award one of our next $10,000 grants to a local Key West charity helping those in immediate need.
Of our 22 runners competing in the 5K and half marathon, Team EWE had an outstanding number of podium finishes:
Half Marathon
2nd men’s masters and 7th overall: Alex Iliff
7th in age group: Dave Armitage, who also broke his time goal of 1:45, for which some of his donors doubled their donations
5th in age group: Andrea Visintini
5K
2nd in age group: Mary Ewenson
1st in age group: Adam Minter
5th in age group: Tommy O’Donnell
3rd men’s masters: Chris Williams
2nd overall: Nick Ford – running in Vans!
3rd in age group: Sam Haas
